Our Forerunner

Hebrews 6:19-20

In the book of Hebrews, the message is clear that Jesus is superior to all things-to angels, to leaders, to the law, and to the Jewish priesthood. As you may know, following him isn't always easy. And we shouldn't expect it to be. But we can endure, be patient, and persevere because Jesus did what we couldn't. 

In the scripture above, Jesus is described as a forerunner. The Greek adjective translated here is prodromos, which depicts one who runs ahead or goes before others to prepare a way. In ancient Greek-speaking countries, prodromos was often used to describe a small boat that was sent into a harbor to help larger ships get safely and securely into port. 

It seems as if the author of Hebrews was using the last usage to paint a picture of what Jesus did for us regarding our salvation. Jesus being the runner boat (prodromos) was sent to earth, took our anchor of hope, and by His death and resurrection leads us safely and securely into the harbor of heaven! He is the One who has shown us  the way. The One who goes  before us. The One who pulls us in. That's the character of our God.

Our anchor is the hope we have in Jesus rooted in God's promises. Trust that He's pulling you in the right direction. How have you experienced the Lord  going before you?
